The exacting data security management standards of SOC 2 Type 2 certification for service organizations provide a baseline requirement for security-conscious organizations when selecting a SaaS solution partner.

LOS ANGELES, CA—October 15, 2020—Certemy, a leading provider of certification, licensing, and compliance management software for professional certification boards, state licensing boards, government agencies, and employers of credentialed professionals, is pleased to announce that the company has successfully achieved SOC 2® Type 2 certification.

“Our public and private sector clients trust us to keep their customer data safe and secure at all times,” said Zorik Gordon, Founder and CEO of Certemy. “Our commitment to securing clients’ mission-critical data enables Certemy to join a very few select cloud software providers that offer SOC 2 peace of mind to security-conscious organizations seeking a credentialing or compliance management software partner.”

What is SOC 2 and Who Needs It?

SOC stands for “System and Operations Controls.” The SOC regulations and certification standards were developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to regulate the security of service organizations, such as software vendors, that store or process customer data. SOC-certified companies must maintain annual audits, ongoing training, development and implementation of enhanced security measures, and frequent testing of their processes to ensure they protect their customers’ data. Larger and more security-conscious organizations require their software vendors to be SOC 2 compliant to ensure that customer data is managed and secured using the most robust and exacting processes available.

Type 1 versus Type 2

A type 1 SOC audit evaluates and reports on the design of controls and procedures put in place as of a single point of time. A type 2 SOC audit takes the process described above a step further and provides a service organization with an opportunity to report on its controls’ operating effectiveness over a period of time.

Certemy is certified for the more rigorous and demanding Type 2 standard that most organizations demand of their software partners.
