Requirements for Obtaining an HIV/ AIDS Certified Registered Nurse Certification

? The completion of a minimum of five years of professional nursing experience, with confirmed experience in HIV/AIDS nursing that includes the direct provision of HIV/AIDS care, and/or education experience.

? Successful completion of an approved and accredited AIDS Care and Education Certification program.

? Current, valid RN or APRN license from the state in which you practice.

? Up-to-date knowledge of the specialty and evidence of competence in HIV/AIDS care.

? Commitment to lifelong learning about HIV/AIDS.

Through certification, nurses demonstrate their ability to provide specialized care and education to HIV/AIDS patients. Upon successful completion of the certification, the nurse?s name is included in the National HIV/AIDS Certification Database, an online directory developed by the ANCC.
